Creative ways to Connect with your Community
Life in isolation can mean movies, gardening, yoga and craft with the kids. We’ve suddenly got a whole lot of time on our hands with work and school happening from home. But this can also be a time of anxiety and confusion. It’s as important as ever to reach out if we are feeling a little down.
A great way to do this is to make sure all mob are doing OK. This means looking out for our family and friends, even if it is from the safety of our own homes. Until things pass – which they will – we have a few creative ideas for how we can look out for our loved ones, until the coronavirus settles and community starts getting back to normal.
1. Pick up the phone and have a yarn!
Better yet, fire up that FaceTime and check in virtually. We forget just how good it can be for ourselves and our loved ones to be able to have a chat and share what’s on our minds. Another way you can do this is to set up the video and have a virtual dinner party!
2. Write someone a letter.
Nowadays it isn’t very often that we would get a handwritten letter in the mail because it is so much faster to send a text or email. But if you have ever received a hand-written birthday card or letter in the mail, you know how wonderful (and rare) it is to receive mail! And seeing as we are all staying at home, why not brighten someone’s day with a handwritten note telling them what they mean to you! Especially now that mob are staying at home and considering not everyone has access to a smart phone, why not put pen to paper and put a smile on somebody’s face?!
3. Start a group chat with your family and friends and send a pic!
You could do this by starting a daily photo competition – from an old childhood throwback to a funny meme, the point is to send something visual on a regular basis! It’s a great way to keep connected and the perfect excuse to dig out those old childhood photo albums and remember good times with family and friends. WhatsApp is a great free and easy phone app you can use to start a group chat with family and friends. You can even play a bit of ‘I spy…’ and keep everyone guessing!
4. Ever sent someone a care package?
Time to get creative! Put together a little package for someone you love and pack it with craft, drawings, baked goodies, a DIY candle or your second-hand T-shirt that you know they love! It doesn’t have to be costly if you use DIY gifts to create the hamper and it gives a personal touch! If you can do it safely, drop it off at their house or send it in the post with a nice note attached. Get the kids involved in this one – it is a great way to keep them entertained and excited whilst stuck indoors!
