Your rights and on-the-spot fines for COVID-19 breaches

If you are confused about the COVID-19 penalties, the Redfern Legal Centre (RLC) have produced a handy fact sheet. The fact sheet (below) covers paying a fine, seeking a review for a fine and what to do if you need to tae the matter to court. You can also find out about applying for a Work Development Order (WDO) which means you can clear your fines through alternate means such as unpaid work, counselling, attending programs and so forth. The fact sheet also covers eligibility to have fines written off or what to do if you ave an overdue fine.

If you have not been issued an on-the-spot fine but a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) instead, you can get legal advice by calling Law Access/Legal Aid NSW on 1300 888 529 or for Aboriginal Legal Service call 1800 765 767. The fact sheet will cover more detail on this too.

The RLC have plenty of other valuable information so be sure to check out their website.
