National Sorry Day 2020 - Tuesday 26th May
National Sorry Day commemorates the members of the stolen generations. The first national Sorry Day was held on 26th May 1998, one year after the Bringing Them home report was tabled in federal parliament. The report gives the findings of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families. Each year on May 26th, National Sorry Day acknowledges the injustice experienced by stolen generations and we remember their suffering and grief.
If you would like to help commemorate this day, you can head over to Kempsey Railway station tomorrow (26th May) between 10am - 11.30am (poster below). Be mindful that COVID-19 restrictions apply.
p.s. You can also check out the National Reconciliation week events, which run from 27th May to 3rd June every year.
